'Imān (Arabic: إيمان) or faith is a heartfelt belief in the teachings of the Prophet of Islam (s) and the Twelve infallible Imams (a). Shiite jurisprudents take iman to be a necessary condition for marja's, imams of congregational prayers, judges, and receivers of zakat. According to the majority of Shiite scholars, iman is not a matter of taqlid (following someone's lead).
