Although al-Kashshi counted him as a companion of Imam al-Rida (a) and a pupil of Yunus b. 'Abd al-Rahman, al-Najashi doubted this. Sayyid Abu l-Qasim al-Khoei believes that al-Najashi's doubt is reasonable; because he has no direct narration form Imam al-Rida (a) or Yunis b. 'Abd al-Rahman; but he adds that unavailability of a direct narration does not necessarily means that he did not see Imam al-Rida (a). He continues by saying that he was a companion to Imam al-Jawad (a), arguing that he has narrated several hadiths from him directly.
According to al-Khoei's opinion there is no doubt about his reliability. He adds that no other narrator have quoted this number of hadiths (6414) except him.
