Ma'ruf b. Kharrabudh
Maʿrūf b. Kharrabūdh (Arabic: معروف بن خَرَّبُوذ) was one of the companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a), among the People of Consensus and also among Shi'a faqihs. Since he was born in Mecca, he was attributed to that city (al-Makki). Ma'ruf was among narrators who have been mentioned as reliable both by Shi'a and Sunni scholars.

Ma'ruf b. Kharrabudh was one of the mawali of Al 'Uthman b. 'Affan who was therefore also called al-Qurashi. He was born in the second half of the first/seventh century in Mecca and passed his teenage and youth life in the same city.
In his al-Rijal, al-Shaykh al-Tusi has once mentioned him among the companions of Imam al-Sajjad (a), but sometimes considered him among the companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). According to the research of al-Sayyid Abu l-Qasim al-Khoei, it is not impossible, and al-Tusi's opinion is more accurate than others, he says that Ma'ruf could have remembered the time of Imam al-Sajjad (a), but he did not have the scholarly merits he gained at the time of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
Position in Rijal
Al-Kashshi has considered Ma'ruf in a group of the companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a) and all Shi'a faqihs and scholars agreed upon their grandeur and their great position in fiqh and they all respected their position and merits.
However, al-Kashshi has mentioned a narration which most scholars including al-Sayyid b. Tawus, al-Mamaqani, and al-Khoei have either questioned it with regards to its reference or have considered it useless in suggesting the weakness of Ma'ruf b. Kharrabudh.
